Dance Gymnastics

What can I expect from a MOUVE Dance Gymnastics class?

Our dance gymnastics classes combine popular gymnastics floor-work (including splits, cartwheels, forward rolls, back-bend walk-overs), progressing onto flips and aerials in our more advanced classes. Pupils will learn to execute and perfect these gymnastics stunts. They will join them together with set dance steps to create impressive, choreographed routines that are worked on over the academic year. Classes will stretch and challenge students both physically and mentally and are imperative in helping to develop fitness, strength, coordination, and flexibility.

What should I wear?

After your initial trial, all pupils must purchase a Mouve It Dance Gymnastics Leotard (plain black short-sleeved, or our pink and black long-sleeved leotard). They can choose to come with bare legs or plain black leggings and are expected to wear black split-sole jazz shoes. They should wear a Mouve It or any DWL T-shirt for warm-up.

Any other information I ought to know?

Classes are split by ability, not just by age, so their teacher will assess each pupil to confirm that they are in the correct class. Girls should come ready to dance and have fun!

N.B. During the current global pandemic, and to ensure we remain Covid-19 secure, classes will be focussed on fitness, strength & flexibility along with a fabulous Mouve IT dance routine, as ALL pupils and staff MUST remain at a 2-metre distance, so for safety, we are not allowed to practise tricks that require support. Dance Gymnastics is usually done in bare feet, but due to current DofSE guidelines, ALL pupils must wear footwear. We recommend split-sole jazz shoes.
